STI Test in Pattaya: Confidential Screening & Results

An STI test in Pattaya for syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and hepatitis B & C: which samples, when to test, approximate prices and results explained.

01 — The short answer

STI testing in Pattaya, matched to your risk.

A useful STI test in Pattaya checks the right infections, at the right body sites, at the right time after sex.

We screen for syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and hepatitis B and C, using a urine sample or swab plus a small blood test. It is confidential and quick. Timing matters more than panel size, because a test done too soon can miss an infection.

If the risk happened in the last 72 hours, ask about HIV PEP first; see the 72-hour PEP window. STI checks sit alongside PEP and PrEP in our HIV prevention services, and HIV itself is covered in our guide to HIV testing in Pattaya.

02 — Which test

One sample does not fit all.

Bacterial infections of the genitals, throat or rectum are found with swabs or urine, while syphilis and hepatitis need blood.

Gonorrhoea (spelt gonorrhea in American English) and chlamydia are usually checked together with one PCR-type test, known as a NAAT. A syphilis test in Pattaya, or anywhere else, is a blood test, never urine.

Which STI test for which infection

InfectionSampleTypical result time
Chlamydia and gonorrhoeaFirst-pass urine (penis), vaginal swab, plus throat or rectal swabs if relevantSame day to about 3 days
SyphilisBlood from a vein or finger-prickRapid test in minutes; lab test in 1–2 days
Hepatitis BBloodRapid test in minutes; lab test in 1–2 days
Hepatitis CBloodRapid test in minutes; lab test in 1–2 days

Some clinics advertise panels of 20 or more organisms. Bigger is not always better: several extras are not recommended for routine screening without symptoms.

03 — Oral and anal sex

Why urine alone can miss infections.

A urine sample only shows what is happening in the urethra, not in the throat or rectum.

If you had oral sex, a throat swab is needed to check for gonorrhoea and chlamydia there. After receptive anal sex, a rectal swab does the same job. The BASHH summary guidance on STI testing says throat and rectal swabs should follow your sexual history, and recommends three-site testing for sexually active men who have sex with men.

  • Throat swab: a quick wipe at the back of the throat.
  • Rectal swab: a thin swab just inside the anus, often self-taken.
  • Vaginal swab: usually self-taken in private.

Throat infections matter in this region. UK guidance advises a throat sample for anyone with genital gonorrhoea that may have been picked up in the Asia-Pacific region, because treatment-resistant strains are more common here.

04 — Timing

When a result can be trusted.

Each infection has a window period, the time before a test can reliably pick it up.

Testing the morning after sex shows what you had before that encounter, not what it may have passed on. A baseline test can still be sensible, but plan a repeat. If a condom broke, our guide on what to do if a condom breaks covers the first few days.

When to test after a risk

InfectionEarliest useful testWhen a negative is reliable
ChlamydiaAbout 2 weeks after sexFrom 2 weeks
GonorrhoeaAbout 2 weeks after sexFrom 2 weeks
SyphilisAbout 4–6 weeksAbout 12 weeks
Hepatitis B and CAbout 6 weeksAround 3 months; your doctor may advise later

Symptoms change the plan: discharge, burning when you pee, a sore or a new rash deserve a visit now.

05 — Prices

What STI testing costs in Thailand.

Blood tests are cheap; PCR tests for chlamydia and gonorrhoea make up most of the bill.

These rounded ranges are approximate, checked September 2026 in public clinic and lab listings in Pattaya and Bangkok. They are not our price list; we confirm your price before testing.

Approximate STI test prices in Thailand

TestApproximate priceNotes
Syphilis blood testAbout 400–700 bahtRapid or lab
Hepatitis B or C testAbout 400–700 baht eachBlood
Chlamydia and gonorrhoea PCRAbout 1,000–3,500 bahtPer sample site
Blood panel: HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and CAbout 1,300–3,000 bahtOften bundled
Large PCR panels, 7–28 organismsAbout 2,500–5,000 baht or moreOften more than you need

So the std test Pattaya price for a sensible check usually lands between about 2,000 and 5,000 baht, depending on how many sites need swabbing. For PEP itself, see PEP cost in Pattaya.

06 — Results

Positive, negative, and what happens next.

A negative result outside the window period means no infection was found; a positive one is common, treatable and nothing to be ashamed of.

Chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis are bacterial and are treated with antibiotics. Gonorrhoea is usually treated with a single injection; the BASHH gonorrhoea guideline recommends ceftriaxone and advises a follow-up test in some situations, such as a throat infection.

  • Chlamydia: usually a week of tablets.
  • Syphilis: treatment depends on the stage, with blood tests afterwards to check it has worked.
  • Hepatitis B or C: further tests decide whether treatment or monitoring is needed.

Avoid sex until you and any partners have finished treatment. Don’t self-treat with pharmacy antibiotics; the wrong drug can hide an infection without clearing it.

07 — Partners

Telling partners, without the drama.

Letting recent partners know means they can get tested and treated, and it stops the infection coming back to you.

A short, factual message is enough: “I tested positive for chlamydia after we met; it’s easy to treat, so it’s worth getting checked.”

  1. Decide who to tell. Your doctor will suggest how far back to go for each infection.
  2. Choose how. In person, by text or through a messaging app, whichever feels safe.
  3. Ask us for help with the wording if you are unsure.

Your own results stay confidential; nothing is shared with a partner, employer or embassy without your consent.

08 — How often

Regular checks for the way you live.

Most sexually active adults benefit from a yearly check and another after each new partner.

UK guidance suggests testing every three months if you take PrEP, have many partners or were treated for a bacterial STI in the past year. Anyone on PrEP in Pattaya gets STI screening at each review, because PrEP only protects against HIV; our PEP vs PrEP comparison explains why.

  • Hepatitis B vaccine: if tests show you are not immune, ask us about the hepatitis B vaccine.
  • Doxycycline after sex: if you have read about doxy PEP, ask us whether it suits your situation.

09 — Your visit

Confidential, start to finish.

An STI check at our clinic is a short, private visit with a doctor who explains every step.

  1. A private conversation about what happened and when, so only the tests you need are done.
  2. The price first, confirmed before any sample is taken.
  3. Samples in private: urine or swabs you can often take yourself, and a small blood sample.
  4. Results explained in English or Thai, with treatment and a retest date if needed.

Anyone looking for an STD clinic in Pattaya with same-day answers should know that rapid blood tests are ready during the visit, while PCR results follow within a few days. To book, call, LINE or WhatsApp us.

Questions

Quick answers on STI tests.

Written by the HIV PEP Pattaya team, based on BASHH guidance. Last updated 29 September 2026.

How soon after sex can I get an STI test?

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea tests are reliable from about 2 weeks, syphilis from about 12 weeks. An earlier test is fine if you plan a repeat.

Is an STI test urine or swab?

Both. Urine or a vaginal swab covers the genitals, throat and rectal swabs cover oral and anal sex, and syphilis and hepatitis need blood.

Is STI testing painful?

Hardly. Urine and self-taken swabs are painless, a throat swab may make you gag briefly, and a blood test is a quick pinch.

Can I get STI results the same day?

Rapid syphilis and hepatitis tests take minutes. PCR results for chlamydia and gonorrhoea are sometimes same-day, but often take one to three days.

What does a full STI panel include?

A sensible full screen covers chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B and C, with swabs from every site involved. Extra organisms mainly help when you have symptoms.
